How the repair goes

Check
We connect the starter to a power supply and check that it turns. If it does, the fault may be in the car, for example in the ignition switch or the battery.

Taking apart
We take the unit apart and find the real cause of the fault.

Checking the parts
We check which parts are worn.

Agreeing with you
We call you, tell you which parts we recommend replacing so the unit lasts, and exactly what the repair will cost.

Assembly and testing
We put the unit back together and test it once more.
Common starter faults
- Solenoid (relay). Its contacts wear out: when you turn the key you hear only a click and the starter does not turn.
- Bendix drive. The gear that connects the starter to the engine's flywheel: when it fails the starter spins but does not turn the engine, or you hear a metallic grinding.
- Brushes and armature. They wear over time: the starter turns weakly or on and off.
- Bushings. Worn bushings: the starter whirrs and turns heavily.
- Overheating. Cranking an engine that will not start for a long time overheats and damages the starter – better stop and call us.
